Our Colleagues
- We treat everyone fairly, equally and with respect.
- We understand what is and isn’t appropriate behaviour, to make sure we don’t discriminate against anyone (even by mistake).
- We respect other people’s cultures and beliefs.
- We won’t do anything that could be offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting to anyone else.
- We won’t humiliate or embarrass anyone or spread unwarranted gossip about them.
- We recognise that “banter” between colleagues can sometimes make other people uncomfortable.
- We report any bullying, harassment or violence of any kind, if we see it – even if we only suspect something’s wrong.
On Air
- We recognise that listeners come first, that our role is to inform and entertain them and that CR isn’t a vehicle for the promotion of our personal businesses.
- We understand everyone’s right to free speech, and we give interviewees and callers an opportunity to express their views.
- However, we are familiar with the laws of libel and the special rules about impartiality which pertain during election campaigns.
- And we are mindful that offensive language and unattributable allegations have no place in our output.
- We respect people’s privacy (e.g., no personal addresses or phone numbers should be broadcast without permission)
- We are aware of the potential for offence in song lyrics. We always check before broadcast and make sure none of the key words are broadcast before 9pm.
- If in doubt we consult the Editorial Lead or a member of the board.
In Public
- We make every effort to avoid behaviour or actions which could bring CR into disrepute by any means.
- We treat members of the public – even those critical of our output – in a polite, courteous and respectful manner.
Social Media
- We don’t send messages to anyone which might be offensive or inappropriate.
- We use moderate language even when posting on the station’s Facebook site.
- We don’t write something about a colleague that we wouldn’t say to their face.
- We never use CAPITALS!! Like that.
- We understand that private messages can become public knowledge.
- We always ask people’s permission before taking and posting photographs.
- If we’re known on air we make sure our social media posts make clear that the views expressed are personal, and not those of CR.
- We understand that a re-post or a ‘like’ can appear to be an endorsement of the views expressed.
Bribery & Corruption
- We don’t accept money or any other inducements in return for air time or publicity on our programmes.
- We refer any offers or approaches to the Cambridge Radio Sales Lead so that advertising and sponsorship revenue can be collected by the station in the proper way.
