Robert-Louis Abrahamson attends this week to the very practical and immediate problem of how we respond when the government in power enacts policies that we consider unjust. He recalls Henry David Thoreau's classic statement of the case in his essay "Civil Disobedience", written in 1848, in response to a government that sanctioned slavery and promoted an unjust war against Mexico. He refused to pay his taxes, and went to prison, and then wrote about the experience. Programme Website
