Starring in such films as Calamity Jane and Move Over, Darling, her leading men included Rock Hudson, Clark Gable and David Niven. She also enjoyed success as a singer, from her 1945 hit Sentimental Journey to 2011's My Heart, which made her the oldest artist to feature in the UK top ten album chart.
