Hello and welcome to the first October update from Cambridge105.
Good news! We now have a permanent home. This has been a long, drawn out process but the end result is a facility that is of low cost, central location, and which represents both the spirit and approach of our community radio station. Our landlord, Cambridge City Council, has been very supportive and we’re grateful for their help in the past few weeks.
Where are we located?
The space is within the “Gwydir Enterprise Centre” at the top of Gwydir Street, opposite “The Alex” pub and a hop, skip and stagger from the Cambridge Blue (we’re sure this will aid and shape the development of the station!) The centre houses several small businesses and we’ve already received a warm welcome, and expressions of interest, from some of the other occupants.
Open Days
During the weekend of the 16th and 17th of October we will be holding open days (actual times to be confirmed) plus an open evening on a weekday. Please do try to get along, meet some of the team and see the space prior to its magical transformation. We already have had kind offers of help from various individuals, companies and organisations but we welcome any further offers of help and materials. We will be drawing up a list of materials that we need, along with any specialist skills that we require and send this out in the next update. But, if you can brandish a paintbrush or make a cracking cup of tea, then you’re an equally essential member of the team!
The Rest
Yesterday, Saturday 2nd October, saw the launch of the Cambridge university station, CAM FM, on 97.2 Mhz. We wish them well and hope we can work together on some joint projects in the future. Exciting times for the airwaves of Cambridge.
Last (but not least), Karl and Lucy (of 209radio fame) depart on their world tour! We wish them all the best and thank them for having the vision to bring full-time community radio to Cambridge.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to the last update, we always like to hear from you and apologies to those of you who haven’t received a reply yet (time, day, lack thereof!).
The email address is : volunteer@cambridge105.co.uk .
Please look out for another email update later this week confirming the open day times.
Best Wishes,
Axel, Cath, Pete. Steve and Tony.
