Hello and welcome to the November update from Cambridge105
Since our last email we may have seen some of you in person at our open days in October. We had a really positive response from all those attending over the three days, with lots of enthusiasm and ideas for the months ahead.
Things may not have developed as quickly as we had hoped over the past month, but we feel confident we have built strong foundations for Cambridge105. Construction plans have been finalised and, working in partnership with Cambridge Regional College, the studios will be built in the first week of December. We are really pleased to be able to work with CRC’s construction students as well as Travis Perkins who have very generously donated all building materials. Cambridge City Council (our landlords) have been doing some external repairs (see photos) and we now have a shiny new front door too. We have also had electricians, gas men and brick layers contributing their expertise. So all being well, Cambridge105 will open it’s doors on Gwydir Street by mid-December- although, as ever, anyone with any interest in helping with painting, decorating or tea making is always welcome- do get in touch!
Programme wise we have seen the return to the airwaves of some old favourites coupled with some brand new shows to give a total of 32 programmes currently airing. Bums on Seats (film reviews) and Flavour of the Month (food and drink) are broadcasting regularly once more and Freedom Sound (eclectic Jazz) is new to Wednesday evenings. We continue to support Silver Lining and Making Mental Notes while new community show proposals are coming in thick and fast- in the pipeline we have a Cambridge based radio soap, a travel show and a children’s programme.
In other news…the Voice Over Competition being run at Cambridge Regional College by our very own Phil Pethybridge is in full swing and we should have a new voice of the station announced soon.
A couple of us spent an enjoyable afternoon talking to media students at the Parkside Federation about the joys of community radio and hope this will be the start of a good relationship with the school.
We are committed to offering training for all volunteers and are in the process of applying for funding specifically to meet this aim. It would be really helpful if everyone could express their interest asap through this short survey, which is designed to find out how we can best meet your needs- so please do answer as fully as possible as the results will feed directly into our upcoming funding proposal. The survey can be found at http://cambridge105.co.uk/cambridge105-training-opportunities-survey
Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to the last update, we always like to hear from you and apologies to those of you who haven’t received a reply yet. The email address is “volunteer@cambridge105.co.uk“.
Please look out for another email update very soon.
Best Wishes,
Axel, Cath, Pete, Steve and Tony.
