Hello,
Welcome to the March update from Cambridge105.
There’s lots of exciting news since our last update at the end of January.
Daytime Shows
Neil’s Breakfast show has gone from strength to strength, Karl “kiwi” Ashton has settled into Saturday Breakfast and Chris Mann has a special mix of news, views and easy listening music every Sunday. We’ve had lots of guests and giveaways, in-depth discussion, lighthearted banter, along with local news, sports and travel produced and presented by our news team.
105 Drive is running smoothly, with Tim Willett kick starting the slot on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4PM.
Stu Grant joined the team in March and is doing the business on Tuesdays and Thursdays. With the latest news to keep you informed, up-to-date travel to get you home in good time, features and competitions to keep you challenged and entertained, along with a great mix of music, 105 Drive is the place to be every weekday.
Specialist Shows
An extra special mention must go to our special feline friend, Kipper the Cat. Ably assisted by Greg and Darren, Kipper spins the 78 RPM shellac every other Tuesday evening. Produced in pure analogue, presented in glorious mono, each programme follows a chosen theme, with the odd (!) guest popping in with their own shellac stories. Settle in the armchair, switch on the wireless and enjoy two unique hours of entertainment – Only on Cambridge105!
Several new shows have now reached the airwaves of 105 and several more are in the pipeline. Classical, Comedy, Easy Listening, Folk, Indie and Rock, along with specialist talk, will all see increased airtime in the next few weeks.
Premises
Building-wise, the electrical system has been replaced (thanks to QVS, Senate Electrical, Roger and Chris) and work is in hand to get the second studio up and running. We have sourced a suspended ceiling for both the studios along with some extra special lighting. We do need some carpet (ideally tiles) for the studios- if you can help with this, please do get in touch.
Advertising
Our advertising rate card is now available on the website. We don’t hide our pricing, it’s competitive and effective. Please have a look – http://cambridge105.co.uk/advertising/ – and pass on the details to anyone who you think might benefit.
We recently secured the contract to promote the Digital Switch Over, which we have been running from February through to the end of this month. This is a two phase promotion, including service announcements, interviews and a web presence. Please see our website and click on the banner at the top of the main page for further information.
Red Nose Day
A big “Hello” to our four-wheeled friend, Flossie! She’s a big white van with a 60 foot mast. Her owners, Cambridgeshire Repeater Group, have teamed up with 105 to get us out and about in the community. Our first outing together was on Friday 18th March, raising funds (and having fun!) in aid of Red Nose Day. With Tim and the news crew out and about in Flossie and Neil “pot noodle” Whiteside manning our Gwydir Street Studio, we produced over 12 hours of live and local programming, broadcasting live bands, interviews and the odd silly game, from the Junction, Sidney Street and the Beehive Centre. You can read the whole story (and see pictures of Flossie and the team) at http://cambridge105.co.uk/station-news/red-nose-day-2011/ . Expect to see us taking Flossie out for more outings in the coming months. If you have a suggestion for an event you think we should cover, please get in touch.
Transmission
For those who have difficulty receiving 105, we have some great news. Ofcom have agreed that we can make improvements to our FM transmission system which will allow us to cover Cambridge more effectively. For those outside the area (or, perhaps, sneaking in a listen at work?) we will be be announcing a webstream in the next few weeks.
What Else?
Thanks, as always, to everyone who has been in touch. We know quite a few of you are waiting to get shows on air, please do bear with us. Once the second studio is online we will be able to run training in parallel with live programming, therefore allowing new shows to get to air more quickly.
To close, our grateful thanks to everyone who supports 105, our listeners, our sponsors and our volunteers.
Kind Regards,
Axel, Cath, Peter, Steve and Tony
