Rivers of Film – Festival

Tuesday September 23, 2025Saturday October 4, 2025

A new festival is set to flow through Cambridge this autumn, bringing rivers, aquatic ecosystems, and their guardians into the spotlight. The Cambridge Rivers of Film Festival will run from 23rd September to 4th October 2025, offering twelve days of screenings, talks, workshops, walks, and creative encounters.

Curated by filmmaker and cultural producer James Murray-White, the festival showcases nine newly commissioned short films made in summer 2025, alongside acclaimed documentaries, artistic explorations, and community events. Together, they invite audiences to celebrate rivers as lifelines of imagination, ecology, and action.

Highlights include:

With our wet & scaly hands & feet – creative workshop and screenings at the Museum of Cambridge (23 Sept)
Water Is Love: Ripples of Regeneration – film and discussion on water scarcity (25 Sept, Storey’s Field Centre)
Ocean – screening with co-director Keith Scholey, followed by an ocean conservation panel (26 Sept, Babbage Lecture Theatre)
What Matters: A Celebration – artist Josh Bilton leads a film and family workshop (27 Sept, Kettle’s Yard).

The Rivers of Film Festival is commissioned by Cambridge Past, Present & Future as part of the RiverCamCAN (Climate Action Through Nature) project, and made possible with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. It is supported by Water Sensitive Cambridge and a network of community organisations, volunteers, and artists

Location: Venues across Cambridge, including the Museum of Cambridge, Storey’s Field Centre, Kettle’s Yard, Babbage Lecture Theatre, Pembroke Auditorium, and The Leper Chapel.
