Tony Barnfield meets Francis Bushell, second-year music student from Cambridge University’s Robinson College, who performs Rossini’s Bassoon Concerto this Saturday at West Road Concert Hall, in the presence of Judith Weir CBE, Master of the Queen’s Music. A woodwind category finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2018 competition, he talks enthusiastically about his instrument and plans for the future. The programme also includes news of the Cambridge University Musical Society’s new concert programme, the Cambridge Music Festival, Fairhaven Singers’ Into the Holy City November concert and the monthly Concert Calendar.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.
