Three veteran local broadcasters will be helping celebrate Christmas on Cambridge 105.
Trevor Dann, Ronnie Barbour and Mandy Morton feature in a schedule that includes local music, conversation and sport as well as special editions of favourite shows.
Some familiar names will also be returning to the community station with Becky Marcus and Claire Craig joining Tim Willett, Neil Whiteside, Julian Clover, Matt Webb, Phil Rowe, Kelvin Taber & Kerry Bolland, and Tony Dellar.
Becky and Claire will be co-hosting 105 Breakfast with Neil Whiteside, while Linda Ness takes a Christmas break. Becky will also be returning to Afternoons on Monday 22nd and 29th December, while Claire hosts a special 90s Show at 4pm on December 30.
Boo Hewerdine
Trevor Dann, known for his work on The Old Grey Whistle Test, presents a two-hour special featuring Boo Hewerdine. The lead singer and creative force behind The Bible has also enjoyed a long association with Eddi Reader. Hewerdine, whose music has also been heard in television and film, talks to Dann about his latest work. (Tuesday December 30th at 9.00pm).
Mission 676
Ronnie Barbour, the former BBC Radio Cambridgeshire breakfast presenter, spoke with Cambridge United CEO Jez George as he walked walks 676 miles in 26 days raising money for Cambridge United’s Community Trust. The programme of highlights can be heard at 6pm on Sunday December 29th, following 105 Sport. There is also a special edition of 105 Sport on Boxing Day at 4pm.
Midnight Mass – Live
For the third consecutive year we present coverage of the Midnight Mass service at the Catholic Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, Hills Road. (Christmas Eve, 11pm).
The Home of Cambridge Music
On Christmas Eve Tim Willett presents his top five favourite studio interviews and live sessions from 2014. (The New Music Generator: Tim’s Top 5 from 7pm). You can also hear a rerun of the New Music Generator Awards at 10pm on Sunday December 28th.
Neil Whiteside continues his popular series of local artist interviews with Neil Meets Fred’s House. He speaks to Griff Jameson about the rise of the Cambridge indie-folk five-piece that is enjoying success on a national and local level. (Christmas Eve 10pm). On Sunday 28th 7pm When Neil Met Tony puts Neil Whiteside together with Cambridge 105’s Tony Dellar. The Northern Soul presenter recalls the days of the Howard Mallett Soul Club and talks about the enduring popularity of the genre.
Scott Polar Special
Mike Prior speaks to Dr Poul Christoffersen about the work of the Scott Polar Research Institute, founded in 1920 as the national memorial to Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his companions, who died on their return journey from the South Pole in 1912. Greg’s Afternoon Record Club with the Mayor of Cambridge
Greg Butler welcomes Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Geri Bird into the studio with a box of her favourite records. (Sunday December 28th at 2pm).
Christmas Day
On Christmas Day Cambridge 105 provides the perfect soundtrack to the day. Phil Rowe presents 105 Breakfast live from our Gwydir Street studios at 8am. At 10pm the Cambridge 105 team come together for a special Christmas Lunch show that celebrates the season with a look at Cambridge over the festive season with features on food & drink, entertainment and sport.
Mandy Morton has an Eclectic Light Show Special at 1pm reviewing the 50th Cambridge Folk Festival.
The popular local broadcaster is also joined by her regular ELS collaborator, writer Nicola Upson, for two special editions of her regular Tuesday morning show on December 23rd and December 30th at 10am.
On Christmas Day afternoon at 3pm you can hear coverage of the Christmas Concert that took place earlier this month at Great St Mary’s Church. Featuring Christmas carols performed by the Addenbrookes Hospital Choir and the Soham Comrades Band.
At 5pm The NMG Collective Story charts the recording by Cambridgeshire musicians of Do They Know It’s Christmas with interviews with the artists that took part including Vikki & Griff (Fred’s House), Lee Morris (Goldstar), Melody Causton, Grace Sarah, Elliot Porter, Liz Townsend (The Floe) Tim Lloyd Kinnings & Michael Smith (28 Boulevard), Felix Morgan (of The Abstracts) and Lewis Hall (The Staycations).
The Day Le Tour Came to Town at 6pm recalls July 7th when Cambridge stopped for Le Tour de France.
In Rock Lit: Versions at 7pm Alan Alder and rock historian Alan Thatcher play tracks as you’ve never heard they before. Ever heard Mohammed Ali, in his Cassius Clay days, singing Stand By Me? Or Bob Dylan singing Like A Rollin’ Stone in waltz time, or an acoustic version of Happy Jack by the Who? Or the original version of Louie Louie? All will be revealed!
Christmas Day completes with three hours of highlights from this year’s Cambridge Rock Festival from 9pm.
New Years Eve
Matt Webb brings in 2015 live from our studios Gwydir Street with the best party tunes and dance anthems. (New Year Live from 10pm).
New Year’s Day
Kelvin Taber and Kerry Bolland start 2015 in a manner that can only be described as unique. Join them for 105 Breakfast from 8am.
The Bums on Seats team reflects on the best movies of the last 12 months in a special programme from 11am.
Phil Rowe looks back on the Best of the Sunday Breakfast interviews at 12 noon.
