Alex Elbro to step down from Cambridge Radio

Alex Elbro

After a decade of dedication, warmth, and unmistakable energy, Alex Elbro will be leaving Cambridge Radio.

Alex joined the station in 2016 as a reporter on 105 Drive, later becoming a familiar voice on 105 Today and hosting her own afternoon and morning shows. She has been part of countless programmes across the schedule and has been a driving force behind many of our biggest outside broadcasts, from Summer Saturday and Out of the Ordinary to the iconic Cambridge Folk Festival.

In 2025, her show Women’s Sports Mix, co presented with Amy Gray, proudly took home Gold for Sports Show of the Year at the Community Radio Awards.
Reflecting on her time at the station, Alex says: “I’ve been with the radio station for over ten years and I’ve loved making programmes, doing outside broadcasts, and helping so many in our local community feel heard.”

Editorial Lead Julian Clover says: “Community Radio was made for Alex. Her passion, her love for broadcasting, and her connection to Cambridge have made her a joy to work with. We will all miss her and her tireless energy, enormously.”

As anyone who knows her will expect, Alex has no plans to simply sit back and take it easy. She’s excited to pour more time into songwriting, to travel a little more freely, and to enjoy lots of catch ups with friends and family across the country.

Alex will be hanging up her Cambridge Radio headphones on Thursday 2 April. She’ll make a guest appearance on Weekend Waffle on 3 April and continue with Women’s Sports Mix until 7 May. Alex hopes to return for some occasional cover shows later in the year.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
