In this multimedia age it seems a little strange that a radio station should want to make a big deal about broadcasting continuously for 105 hours.
But the reality is that many stations rely on computer automation to keep themselves on the air for a full 24-hours. For a community station such as Cambridge 105 – which already broadcasts more locally-originated programmes than any other station in the city – it’s still something of a challenge.
Our second 105 hour marathon gets underway at 7am on Thursday May 22nd with Merlin Kothari’s 105 Breakfast and runs through until 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday. During this time all of our programmes will be presented live either from our Gwydir Street studios or on location.
Highlights include the NMG Sessions, broadcast live from The Portland Arms in Cambridge, and featuring music from Fishwife’s Broadside, The Abstracts, Bouquet of Dead Crows and Flux32 (Thursday 8pm); Leisure programme Summer Saturday, presented by Matt Webb, and featuring the Duxford D Day Anniversary Air Show and the Cambridge Beer Festival (Saturday 1pm) and live broadcasts of your favourite shows direct from Gwydir Street.
