Weekend Fixtures Preview 11/02/2017

Cambridge United

Cambridge United are on the road this weekend heading to Morcambe FC. The U’s form has a hit a bit of a snag of late, they haven’t won in four games now and will be looking to turn that around before the play offs become a distant memory, before the Christmas period the U’s looked almost like they could perhaps push onto the automatic places, now, even the playoffs are slipping away.

On the other hand Morcambe are unbeaten in five and have picked up two wins in that period, and they have only lost one at home in their last four. This is a tough, tough test for United, Morcambe may sit 17th but this league is very tight as Cambridge are finding out and whilst a win on Saturday can move them within three points of the playoffs a defeat can bring Morcambe within one point of Cambridge and put the U’s into the wrong half of the table.

The U’s are hard to predict at the moment, last week they tried out a 3-5-2 formation and it’ll be interesting to see what Derry does this week, the formation had its positives and the team did well however, they still didn’t score a goal, that may be a confidence issue however rather than a stylistic one. Barry Corr is also in contention after several months out, he came through 60 minutes behind closed doors during in the week so don’t rule anything out, what Cambridge would give to see that man in the Amber and Black again.

After last week’s predictions, Lewis sits on 4 points, Jack on 2 and Matt sits on 1. What do the boys have to say this week?

Matt says: This is a tough one to call and on form, you give it to Morcambe at home, however, I have a sneaky feeling the U’s can do this, and bounce back in style, 3-1 to the U’s.

Jack says: I’m going to say it’s going to be a tough ask for Cambridge who are playing a team who haven’t lost in their last 5. Morecambe is a long way to travel and it can be blustery on the west coast so I’m angling for a 1-1 draw with the Shrimps.

Lewis says: I think it’s going be 2-0 to the Shrimpers. Cambridge’s play off charge is in Davy Jones’s locker and they’re going to be reeled in by a very solid Morecombe side.

Disclaimer: The boys’ puns do not reflect the views of 105 Sport, they are bad.

Cambridge City

After defeat last weekend against Banbury Utd, the Lilywhites will be looking to bounce back and get themselves back to winning ways again. This week they host promotion chasing Slough Town in what will be a huge test for City. I think with form they have at home a result is possible here despite the gulf in league positions and City have only been getting better as the season has gone on, I think a draw here.

Histon FC

Histon snatched a late draw against Northwood last week to keep the impossible dream alive, there is still a long way to go for the Stutes and they’ll look to keep their dreams alive this weekend with a visit to Aylesbury United. Mid table Aylesbury present a tough challenge for the Stutes however they have overcome much stiffer test this season, I’m backing Histon to grab all three points here, I believe in Histon.
