Weekend Fixtures Preview 02/02/2017

Cambridge United

Plymouth Argyle are the latest team to travel the Cambs Glass and both teams will be looking to bounce back from defeats last weekend, Cambridge losing away to Luton and Plymouth away to Yeovil. Cambridge have lost two on the bounce and even with new additions look short on ideas at the moment, with Plymouth sitting in second this a real test for the U’s. Yeovil pulling off a win against high flying Plymouth will give United plenty of hope there are weaknesses in this team for them to exploit. Cambridge have looked a bit goal shy in recent appearances and will be looking to get both Luke Berry and Uche Ikpeazu into the game and get back to winning ways this weekend.

Looking into the form for this game, Plymouth aren’t as hot as they were a few weeks ago but still sit fifth in the form table with three wins, a draw and two defeats over their last six games, where as Cambridge have dropped to 12th in the form table, only managing two wins in their last 6 and haven’t won since putting four past Notts County. Looking at the form this will be a huge test for the U’s, and Plymouth have got goals in them. The U’s will look to counteract that with new defensive signing Liam O’Neil, who has dropped down from League One to join his home town side. The fact he was willing to make the drop speaks wonders for the U’s promotion ambitions as you’d imagine a player who featured regularly at the league above wouldn’t drop down unless he had faith in Cambridge not at least making the playoffs, one suspects he’ll go straight into the starting 11.

A tough test lies ahead for the U’s and judging on form and the league table a draw here would be seen as a good result, and a way for Cambridge to change the momentum of their season and start pushing on again.

After last week’s predictions, Lewis sits on 4 points, Jack on 2 and Matt sits on 0, Lewis with a perfect score last week. What do the boys have to say this week?

Matt says: This is a tough test for the U’s and I can see Plymouth more likely to bounce back than the U’s, I still think Derry is looking for a plan B as Cambridge have been found out a bit since their great run before Christmas. Plymouth to win 2-1.

Jack says: Plymouth and Cambridge both come into this game off the back of damaging defeats and will be looking for revenge. I feel a bit of a United resurgence this weekend and am plucking for an eventful 2-2 draw.

Lewis says: The U’s are on a slide into mid table obscurity and if they don’t get something against Plymouth then it might be game over. A very hopeful 2-1

Cambridge City

City travel to Banbury Utd this weekend, who sit in sixth place currently. Looking at the table you’d think this would be all one way traffic however with Matt Foy settling in very quickly, some strong new signings and City in fantastic form as of late, the Lilywhites will fancy at least an away draw here.

Histon FC

Northwood visit the Glassworlds this weekend, they currently sit 15th and and 14 points clear of Histon who are still in some relegation trouble. With Histons current form and self belief anything is possible and they have beaten better positioned teams in recent weeks, keeping this in mind I back the Stutes to use their home advantage and pick up three points this weekend.
