Weekend Fixtures Preview

Cambridge United

Cambridge United entertain Blackpool this weekend at the Cambs Glass Stadium. With both sides in the playoff picture this should be a competitive game between two big sides. Blackpool of course not so long ago plied their trade in the Premier League however times have changed and Cambridge go into the weekend favorites.

Cambridge are on a great run of form, after a strong showing in defeat against Championship opposition on Monday, Cambridge haven’t tasted a league defeat since November during an incredible stretch of games that has seen the U’s from relegation zone to play off hopefuls. Last time Cambridge were out in the league they picked up a 4-0 win against Notts County.

Blackpool’s form isn’t as strong as Cambridge’s however they are more threatening on their travels picking up 7 points in their last 3 away outings. This however, after midweek action, is Blackpools 3rd game in a week so expect changes from the midweek cup side. Key players were rested and top scorer Kyle Vassell is likely to come back in, will he prove a handful for Legge and co at the back?

Cambridge have no new injury concerns and have strengthened, 2 signings this week give Derry options, of the signings we are more likely to see left back Jake Carroll make his debut for the U’s, that more hinge on the fitness of Brad Halliday who faces a late fitness test, he is a key man at the back offering a pace that can be lacking in the backline and Derry will be looking to get him in the side.

We will be running a predictions league between the hosts, they will get 1 point for a correct result and 3 for a perfect score.

Matt says: This is a tough game for Cambridge as Blackpools away form is a threat, however they are a low scoring side away and rely on a sturdy defence. I think with the U’s goal scorer prowess at the moment they can knock this game on the head and take a big 3 points. Cambridge 2 – Blackpool 1

Swindle says: Cambridge have had a good run of form and gave Championship high-fliers Leeds a tough time, but thinks that Saturday’s fixture against another former Premier League side will end all square, 2-2.

Lewis is currently in Vienna, however he has given me his score prediction of 3-0 to the U’s.

Cambridge City

City have a home tie against Basingstoke Town on Saturday. City will be looking to continue their improving form despite a set back and a draw against fellow relegation strugglers Hayes & Yeading. Basingstoke sit just above the relegation places but have 12 points more than City at this stage. I think with City’s form at the moment they can really test Basingstoke and get a result here. We will also be looking to see if new signing Ollie Snaith makes his debut after his move from Needham Market. Snaith is a 20 year old midfielder who before his move to Needham Market have made over 100 appearances for Newmarket Town. Best of luck to Cambridge City.

Histon FC

Histon travel away to Uxbridge this weekend, and after putting together back to back home wins they will be full of confidence. Uxebridge sit at the lower end of midtable currently and this presents a huge chance for the Stutes to make it 3 on the bounce and try and complete one of the greatest escapes. A draw would not be a bad result against a team who are a fair way above them however with the confidence currently at Histon, if they can hold their discipline, I think the Stutes can get a win here.
