In reserve and youth football, Cambridge City’s under-16 side won the Brenda Ince Memorial Cup last week with a 7-0 victory over Leverington Sports.
Cambridge United’s under-18’s didn’t fare so well though as they went down 4-1 at home to their Plymouth counterparts in the Youth Alliance on Saturday.
In men’s football, Hardwick FC are celebrating their first ever title. Their 7-2 victory over Fowlmere secured the Kershaw Premier League title.
In the Kershaw Senior A League, Comberton United kept their title hopes alive after running riot in a 9-2 over Royston Town A. But nothing less than a win will do in their game in hand.
In the Kershaw Senior B League, Cambridge University Press Reserves drew and Sawston Rovers lost.
In the Mead Plant & Grab Divisions, Milton Reserves won away at their Linton Granta counterparts in the 1A Division.
Great Shelford Reserves and Papworth drew with each other in 2A, in the 3A division both Duxford Reserves and Foxton Reserves lost while Whittlesford Reserves drew with Mott McDonald.
In 3B, Cottenham Reserves lost 5-0 at home to Tuddenham 08. In 4A, Papworth Reserves and Sawston Rovers Reserves won and Comberton United Reserves won 5-0 against Milton A.
In 5B, Cottenham United A drew with Outwell Swifts Reserves.
In women’s football, Cambridge United lost their Eastern derby at Luton Town 4-2. Cambridge went a goal down in the first half, but equalised through Emma Jenkins just before the break.
But Luton scored three times in the second half and despite a late consolation goal from Evie Gallop, it wasn’t enough.
United’s reserves were crowned the Women’s Premiership champions after beating Cambridge University 3-1. They have secured the title with two games to spare.
In the same division, Bar Hill’s game with Netherton was an away walkover with Netherton claiming the bragging rights.
In the Championship South, the match between Milton and Cambridge Rangers ended in a 2-2 draw while Fulbourn’s game with Orton Rangers was a home walkover. Fulbourn were awarded the win.
In men’s cricket, Cambridge Granta made it two wins from two in the East Anglia Premier League as they beat Frinton-on-Sea by six wickets.
Granta successfully chased down a total of 250 and Ben Claydon’s maiden EAPL century helped fire them to victory. Claydon scored 121 with the bat.
Cambridge University Cricket Club Blues beat the Quidnucs on Sunday. They made 220 off their 50 overs, but their opponents were all out for 204.
Cambridgeshire County Cricket Club were also due to play Lincolnshire in the Unicorns Trophy on Sunday.
In the Whiting and Partners Division 1 Foxton and Waresley won, but Histon lost and in Division 2, all four of our teams – Cambridge St Giles, Cambridge Granta seconds, Great Shelford and Sawston and Babraham – lost.
In men’s rugby union, Cambridge RUFC ended their season in disappointing fashion after losing 40-15 at home to Plymouth Albion.
Jack Green’s drop goal had put the Blood and Sand 8-5 up at one point, but Albion’s half-time team talk clearly had some effect as they rallied and won by 25 points.
In motorsport, Cambridge’s Rob Huff had a good weekend in the Italian leg of the World Touring Car Championship and he managed two podium finishes to help him take a huge leap forward in the Championship.
In athletics, Cambridge University Modern Pentathlon Club competed recently in the British Modern Tetrathlon Championships and enjoyed success in the competition.
In water polo, the University of Cambridge were due to play their Birmingham counterparts on Saturday, but their fixture was called off.
