The Local Roundup

@danielbaker1992 has a look at some of the local sports from around the region.

In women’s football, Cambridge United Women got the better of Norwich City in a nine-goal thriller on Sunday with United eventually winning 5-4.

United fell behind early on, but equalised through Nicole Perschky and then Carrie Bennett made it 2-1 to United. But Norwich rallied and found themselves 3-2 up at the break.

Carolyn Sarafian volleyed home to make it 3-3 before Laura Mills put United ahead again. Norwich then equalised again to make it 4-4.

But with nine minutes to go, Perschky struck again to make it 5-4 which is how this breathless game finished.

United’s reserves also had a good day and they moved top of the Women’s Premiership after putting 11 without reply past Park Ladies. In the same division, Bar Hill were battered 7-0 at home by St Ives.

Histon, though, had a day to forget as they lost 8-0 to Haringey Borough in their ERWFL Premier Division fixture. They’re next in action on Wednesday when they host Acle United.

In ERWFL Division One, Cambridge City left it late to beat Stevenage Reserves. Bella Simmons and Philippa Witherspoon’s brace helped them secure a 3-1 win.

In cricket, Cambridge University Blues defeated Teddington on Saturday by six wickets. The Blues chased down 111 successfully with Darshan Chohan contributing 62 with the bat. The Blues were due to play Finchley on Easter Sunday.

On Tuesday, Cambridge MCCU take on Durham MCCU in a one day game while the Cambridge University Crusaders will take on The Leys.

Cambridge MCCU will also play a two-day match against Durham MCCU which is due to get underway this Wednesday, April 19.

In rowing, six Cambridge rowers were involved in GB trials at the weekend. They were Holly Hill and Thea Zabell from Downing College, Melissa Wilson from Lucy Cavendish, Lucy Pike from Trinity Hall, Alice White from Homerton and Imogen Grant of Trinity College.

In motorsport, Cambridge’s Luke Davenport was in action in the British Touring Cars Championship at Donington Park.

Fellow city driver Ben Barker took part in the World Endurance Championship  at Silverstone. Both events took place at the weekend while Michael Caine was in British GT Championship action too.

In snooker, Cambridge’s Neil Robertson is due to play Nappon Saengkham in the World Championship this Wednesday, March 19 and on Thursday, March 20.

In rugby union, Cambridge RUFC seconds are due to take on the Shelford Nomads this Wednesday, March 19. The match will kick off at 7.45pm.

In basketball, the Cambridge Svyturys take on the Bedford Bulls in the Cambridge Basketball League Division 1 play-offs while the Cambs Cats play the Huntingdon Hawks in the Division 2 play-offs.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
