In diving, Cambridge’s Daniel Goodfellow was reunited with his Rio partner Tom Daley this week at the FINA World Championships in Budapest.
The duo missed out on a medal on Monday in the 10m synchronised event after finishing fourth overall.
Goodfellow paired up with Robyn Birch on Tuesday evening for the mixed 3m and 10m team event and they finished 13th overall with just over 300 points.
In athletics, Cambridge’s Jonnie Peacock stormed to victory in the T44 100m event in the World Para Athletics Championship on Sunday night.
The 24-year-old was seen by many as the favourite for the event and qualified for the final of the event after coming through his heat.
In football, Cambridge United played two friendly matches against Norwich City on Saturday at the Cambs Glass Stadium.
The U’s played two matches with each one lasting an hour. The first game ended 2-0 to the Canaries and the second match was a goalless draw.
New signing Jabo Ibehre had chances in the second match and Mark Roberts also had a goal chalked off for offside.
Elsewhere, Cambridge City were beaten 1-0 by Yaxley and Histon lost 2-0 to Royston in their respective pre-season games on Saturday.
Cambridge United’s Women gave six players their first team debuts on Sunday as they went down 3-0 away at Acle in their pre-season friendly.
Former Cambridge United manager Claude Le Roy also guided his Togo side to a 1-1 draw with Benin in their African Nations Championship qualifier.
In motorsport, Cambridge-born driver Ben Barker endured a frustrating afternoon in the 6 Hours of Nurburgring race on Sunday.
His Gulf Racing team finished 27th overall in the main race and they struggled in the free practice events on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Cambridge driver Rob Huff was also in action at the weekend in the Argentinian leg of the World Touring Cars Championship. He came ninth in the main race.
Cambridge graduate Oliver Turvey took part in the New York Formula E race, but finished 14th in the main race as he struggled to build on his eighth place finish in qualifying.
In cricket, Cambridge Granta suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday against Frinton-on-Sea in their all-day league encounter.
Frinton-on-Sea managed 216 all out in their innings, but Granta fell a long way short with just 122 all out in 37 overs. The wickets of Jonnie Atkinson and Chris Pepper fell in quick succession which derailed Granta somewhat.
In the Whiting & Partners Divisions, all of our teams won across Divisions 1 and 2.
In the CCA Senior League Division 1, only Abington won. In Division 2, the Old Leysians and Longstanton were Saturday’s winners and in Division 3, Cherry Hinton and Cottenham emerged victorious.
In horse racing, Harry Angel won the prestigious July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday. Poetic Charm and Gustav Klimt were among the day’s other winners and there were eight races on Friday too.
And in bowls, Cambridgeshire were due to take on Bedfordshire at the weekend.
