In rowing, the annual May Bumps competition featuring Cambridge colleges came to an end on Saturday and the final day didn’t disappoint.
Lucy Cavendish claimed the Pegasus Cup which is awarded to the most successful boating club in the May Bumps.
They finished on 44 points with Newnham, Homerton, Wolfson and Lady Margaret immediately behind them.
In the men’s first division, Lady Margaret retained their Head of the River status and in the women’s first division, Jesus College finished Head of the River for the first time in a decade.
The drama came when there was a re-row to resolve a technical issue between Downing and Newnham in the women’s finale.
In other rowing news, Cambridge graduate Tom Ransley missed out on making an appearance for Britain in Poznan at the World Cup due to an emergency appendectomy.
In motorsport, Cambridge driver Ben Barker took part in the world-famous Le Mans 24 Hour Race with his Gulf Racing team.
Gulf Racing could only finish 39th overall and Barker raced with Nick Foster and fellow Brit Michael Wainwright. Barker was the team’s driver at the start of the race which sees drivers rotate.
In cricket, Cambridgeshire CCC met Bedfordshire on day one of their Unicorns Championship match on Sunday and went into the second day with a 273-run deficit.
In Whiting & Partners Division 1, Foxton were the only one of our sides to win and Great Shelford were the only one of our sides to lose in Division 2.
In the CCA Senior League Divisions, Foxton seconds and Fulbourn Institute won in Division 1. In Division 2, only Histon seconds lost and in Division 3, only Cottenham lost.
Cambridge Granta were beaten by Horsford on Saturday. Granta were set 226 to win, but fell a long way short as they lost by 61 runs.
Cambridge University’s men’s and women’s teams beat their Oxford counterparts on Friday in their respective Varsity fixtures.
The men won by nine runs while the women won by nine wickets and chased down a target of 75 with more than seven overs to spare.
On Friday, the Leys School beat Oakham in their National HMC T20 last 32 match and are now into the last 16.
In rugby union, ex-Cambridge star Jamal Ford-Robinson once again had to settle for a seat in the crowd as England saw off Argentina in their second of their two tests.
And in rounders, Moulton A from the Leys School have become Year 8 district champions.
