A young singer is being given the opportunity to record a track written by a chart-topping songwriter.
Cambridgeshire-based Simon Nelson and producer Chris Page have teamed up with Tim Willett, presenter of Cambridge 105’s New Music Generator, to give a young, up and coming singer an opportunity not to be missed.
Simon and Chris recently set out to create a track that was contemporary and would fit into today’s Top 40 – a departure from material they’re used to recording as part of their current band project The Balancines. The pair have enjoyed previous chart success in the groups The Milltown Brothers and Fast Eddie.
In their quest to produce something different, Chris asked his teenage daughter for some examples of songs she currently enjoyed. He then went away and dissected some of the suggestions, which included tracks by Alt-J, The Fray, The xx and Tom Odell, and wrote Monsters.
Now, Simon and Chris want to offer a youthful talent the opportunity to record the track themselves – and approached Tim, known as a champion of local music, for some help in putting together a competition and promotional campaign for the winner.
Simon and Chris are offering the chosen singer the chance to work with them in their studio to professionally record, produce and master the track whilst Cambridge 105 will help by promoting it on air and bring it to market.
Interested applicants should visit the Cambridge 105 website (NMG page) to find an instrumental copy of the track and lyrics, record their efforts (recording quality is not judged – recordings can be done on a PC or a mobile device) and sent directly to monsters@cambridge105.co.uk or uploaded to YouTube. Simon, Chris and Tim will judge the responses and a winner will be picked in April.
