Lunchtimes with Pete Robbins: Trevor Dann

In the midst of the controversy over whether Radio 1 should play Ding, Dong, the Wicked Witch is Dead in its chart show, writer and broadcaster Trevor Dann came into Cambridge 105 and spoke to Lunchtimes with Pete Robbins.

“It’s not the BBC’s chart, it’s the music industry’s chart, it’s not for the BBC to decide why people are buying the record or not,” Trevor told Pete. “The chart show is a piece of reporting, they don’t comment on the FT Index, the weather forecast or the shipping forecast, they just read them out.”

Trevor, who attended Fitzwilliam College, and still lives in the area is a former BBC head of music entertainment with responsibility for Radio 1, Radio 2 and Top of the Pops. He is now a radio consultant with clients in the public and commercial sector.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
