Mission 676: Day 8

U's fans invade the pitch“Wemberleeee Wemberleeee – we’re the famous Cambridge United and we’re going to Wemberleeee”

Day 8 and all is good in the world.

A very early start that allowed Jez to put 10 miles in before the long drive to Cambridge for the 2nd leg of the Play Off Semi Finals.  He arrived at the club to a rapturous welcome and was welcomed onto the pitch by a crowd of nearly 6,500.

The game was always going to be difficult, having to overcome a 1-0 deficit, but with an early goal, a packed stadium willed the team forward.  Two goals from Delano Sam-Yorke set up a 2nd visit to Wembley for the U’s on May 18th where we will get a third chance to get back into the Football League.  The result provided a welcome distraction for Jez, but always the professional he took to the microphone after the pitch invasion to push the donations up.

Whilst everyone else was out celebrating poor old Jez had to drive all the way back to finish the last section of the walk so that he could arrive in Manchester on time tomorrow.  He was still walking into the night and finished sometime around 11pm!

Jez managed an interview with Helen Skelton from BT Sport that will have provided a massive boost to the publicity for the event.

The club is asking for donations to be made through its Just Giving page.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
