Mission 676: Day 22

CUFC back in League 2First the walk – Jez did 10 miles and 2 more clubs before joining Richard and the team at Wembley………

And now the real news.  CAMBRIDGE UNITED ARE BACK!!!!

After nine years in the conference a 2-1 win against Gateshead meant the U’s finally got back into the football league.  Richard Money has said all season that the only thing wrong with the team was that they felt they were playing at the wrong level and now we’ve rectified that!

A headed goal on 51 minutes from Liam Hughes and then a truly stunning 20 yard free kick from Ryan Donaldson which, drove the fans wild and, gave what everyone believed would be the winner (see the reaction from the U’s bench here).  An 80th minute headed goal from Gateshead meant a nail biting conclusion to the game and with the shock of Ian Miller being carried off on a stretcher with a ruptured Achilles tendon and nearly 10 minutes of added time the final whilstle sent the U’s fans into celebrations verging on mass hysteria!!

In all the euphoria it would be easy to forget the massive effort that Jez has put in during the last 3 weeks but he urged everyone to dig deep for the last week and hopefully some of the 11,500 who went who hadn’t donated would be moved to make a contribution now.

The club is asking for donations to be made through its Just Giving page.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
