Day 12 and Jez is starting to feel the mental as well as the physical demands placed on his body by the walk. It seems that sometimes the walking is the easy (if somewhat painful) part and that the, necessary, recovery processes at the hotel in the evening can be more of a pain.
On the mental side Jez is starting to think about the long section between The Hawthorns (West Bromwich Albion FC) which he will reach on Saturday and St Marys (Southampton FC) which he won’t get to until next Thursday. That’s more than 125 miles without the distraction of a football club. The walk gives Jez a lot of time to think and he pointed out that it’s sometimes difficult not to let concerns about the walk get inside his head.
Jez reached the Brittania Stadium, home of Stoke City, on schedule and met up with Adrian Hurst (pictured left), head of Stoke City’s Community Trust. He recorded this interview in which they talked about how the work of clubs in the community often gets overlooked.
After polishing off another 9 miles, heading towards the Black Country, Jez has now completed just over 300 miles and is 8 of 18 of the clubs he is planning to visit.
The club is asking for donations to be made through its Just Giving page.
