Cambridge United’s match report can be found here.

Cambridge City

City enterained Basingstoke this weekend in a crucial tie against a fellow struggler, and were looking to pick up some important points in their bid to avoid relegation. City started slowly and never really got into the game before it was over. Chances were at a premium but Basingstoke took what they had. A first half low on quality saw Basingstoke score with their only 2 chances on goal and take a 2-0 lead into half time. It was always going to be an uphill struggle from that point on.

209 fans came out to see the Lilywhites and were almost rewards as debutante Ollie Snaith almost gave them something to cheer. He worked himself well into the box and from around the 6 yard box he forced two good saves from the opposition keeper, however that was as close as City came on Saturday. City are now without a win in 4 and struggling for goals, however there is some positivity around and the belief is they are creating chances just not taking them. Cambridge City still sit in the relegation places however it is tight at the bottom and a win in the next game could lift them out of the bottom 2 and looking towards safety.

In other news for Cambridge City they have announced a new sponsorship deal with construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall. The players will wear the sponsor on their tracksuits for the rest of the season.

Histon FC

Histon don’t make it easy, but it’s always exciting. On Saturday they travelled to  the Honeycroft to play Uxbridge and it looked like an all to familiar story early on. Histon conceded after just 10 minutes of the game but they didn’t like their head drop and came close within minutes through Matty Allen who just couldn’t get his shot on target.

Unfortunately after that Uxbridge looked the stronger side of the two and put some pressure on Roach in goal. That pressure told on the 23rd minute when Eisa scored his 2nd goal of the game. The Stutes looked like they were in this game but went in 2-0 down at half time.

The manager wasn’t afraid to make an early change and he bought on the ever dangerous Ben Yeomans for the start of the 2nd half, he did not make his manager regret that decision. On the hour mark he got his first, picking the ball up from a nice pass, beating a man then beating the ‘keeper with his effort, it was game on and Histon had Uxbridge on the back foot, forcing them to play on the break at home.

Yeomans equalised on the 76th minute mark after a long throw but Histon had a new found self belief, they smelt blood and 3 points. They kept attacking and won a series of corners. After a few efforts and clearances a corner came in which was met by Dan Gleeson in the 6 yard box to give Histon a brilliant and hard fought victory. Histon still sit 2nd bottom and are 10 points from safety, however are on a run of 3 wins on the bounce and have double their point total in the last 8 days, anything is possible and the belief is certainly there.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.
