Cambridge United were not in action over the weekend as they were in FA Cup action on Monday night, which we will cover later. Histon were our only local side in action on Saturday so we shall start there.
Histon
Histon have been having a tough time in the Evo-Stik League Southern, Division One Central this year, however this weekend could be the catalyst for a remarkable turnaround. Histon took on fellow struggle’s Petersfield and pulled off an important 2-1 win. These are the first points Histon have picked up at home this season and they were much needed. Goals from Ben Yeomans and Tommy Wright gave Histon a 2-0 lead however a penalty made for a nervy finish. Dan Gleeson has come in at the back from Histon after a spell as Cambridge City manager and player coach at St Neots and his manager lauded praise on the Centre Half. The result leaves Histon above Petersfield on 21st in the league and still in the relegation zone. They currently sit on 12 points after 25 games and trail their nearest rival by 10 points, however with a game in hand anything is still possibly and we will be cheering Histon until the end of the season on 105 Sport.
Cambridge City
City had a Sunday fixture this week and traveled to Hayes & Yeading. City have been having somewhat of a revival of late, after some big changes in the dug out and on the pitch results have improved dramatically as they aim to stay in the Evo-Stik League Southern, Premier Division. The game finished 0-0, City started the brighter of the two however couldn’t tuck away their chances and Hayes & Yeading grew into the game and tested the Cambridge keeper second half. A draw won’t help either of these relegation rivals long term however it was a game neither could afford to lose, the result leaves Cambridge City 23rd in the league, still 3 places away from safety, however with games in hand and form improving there is a lot of hope around Cambridge City can stay up.
Cambridge Rubgy
Cambridge Rugby traveled to the Old Albanians this weekend, and will be left frustrated as discipline cost them once again. Cambridge took an early lead however players being sent to the bin and penalties cost them dearly in a tight 26-24 defeat. Cambridge who are newly promoted are still having a superb season that see’s them 10th out of 17 teams in a higher league and they will look to get some more wins on the board to secure their future at this level for another year.
