Histon in mid-week action – Result

Histon looked to build on 3 points from the weekend with a home fixture against promotion hopefuls AFC Dunstable. 148 people came down to the Glassworld Stadium on Tuesday night to cheer on the Stutes to what some people would of believed a few weeks ago an improbable scenario of back to back wins.

The visitors started better of the two sides and came close on 12 minutes when Bernie Christie cracked a shot into the posts. It continued going the away sides way with Roach called into action blocking a goal bound header to keep the scores level. Histon began to come into the game as the half progressed playing on the break and forcing saves from the opposition ‘keeper. There were concerns for Roach as he went down during in a heavy challenge but got to his feet after treatment and continued on.

As the half closed out both teams had their fair share of chances however the nearest we got was from a Histon freekick. Unfortunately after a scramble Dunstable were able to clear their lines.

There was little action of note until a goal out of nowhere from the visitors. A long ball came through and found Christie who had time to move in on goal and get his shot away to give Dunstable the lead in an even affair (57 minutes).

That lead was short lived though as Histon who probably felt aggrieved to concede pegged their top of the table opposition straight back. Ever the threat Yeomans had an effort blocked however Sibanda was there to put the rebound home (59 minutes).

The visitors were spurred on from that and gave it all to Histon coming closest with a glancing header from Jermaine Hall, as Histon tried to press and attack themselves space was opened up and Hall was through again but some excellent defending prevented a goal.

With the game getting on Histon finally struck and drew blood. With 15 minutes left on the clock Unwin put a deep cross in which was met by Jenkins who headed it across the box and into the net.

Hall had one more chance before the game ended, a square ball to him was hit over however the game closed out and Histon took a massive 3 points. Those points now leave Histon on 15 points after being on 9 this time last week and only 7 off safety.

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.
