Frequently Asked Questions

How do I listen?

To listen to Cambridge Radio, find us on 105 FM, DAB Digital Radio, visit cambridge.radiolisten via smart speakers or download the RadioPlayer app.

I’d like to email a presenter, how can I do that?

You can email most of our presenters through the formula firstname@cambridge.radio You’ll also find contact details for individual shows on their dedicated page on this website.

How can I advertise on the radio or on your website?

If you are interested in advertising our sales team will be happy to discuss your needs and offer you suggestions on how to get your message to the right people, at the right time, at the best price.

Will you sponsor my event?

Cambridge Radio looks to support a variety of organisations throughout the year through our Charity of the Month and regular attendance at events across Cambridge and South Cambs.

What is community radio?

Ofcom, the regulator for the UK communications industry, defines community radio stations as ‘small-scale, not-for-profit radio stations operated for the good of members of the public, or of particular communities, and in order to deliver social gain.’

Is Cambridge Radio a registered charity?

Cambridge Radio is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation, registered as a “Limited by Guarantee” company. Whilst we are not a registered charity, we operate with charitable aims and are recognised as doing so by the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation. (localgiving.com/cambridgeradio)

Volunteering

How do I get involved/ how do I join/ how do I get my own show?

If you are interested in producing your own show, joining an existing show, or getting involved in any other area of the station from studio maintenance to marketing, please email: volunteer@cambridge.radio It is also worth coming along to talk to us at any of our open days, or broadcasting events within the community. You can find out more at cambridge.radio/volunteer

Do I need previous radio experience to get involved?

No previous radio experience is necessary. Our volunteers can turn a hand to most tasks, but that’s not to say we’ll turn away experienced broadcasters, we have people who once worked at the BBC, Sky News and commercial radio. And when you need a helping hand we can offer training.

Work Experience

We offer work experience to a limited number of students every year, but many find it useful to spend time with us every week, rather than just for a limited period.

How much does it cost to join Cambridge Radio?

It’s free. However, we suggest a monthly donation of £15 for individual volunteers, £180 per annum for voluntary groups. We prefer monthly payment via Direct Debit. Please see cambridge.radio/volunteer for further information.

What does my donation go towards?

Running Cambridge Radio costs money (unfortunately!) – somewhere in the region of £1,500 per month in rent, utilities, licence fees and royalties. Your money helps make this amount achievable.
