Waterstones Cambridge: What’s on in February
Waterstones Cambridge has kicked off the New Year with a bang and are continuing into February with a great line up of events!
On Wednesday, 8 February from 6pm Waterstones Cambridge is hosting a panel of incredible writers for a wonderfully wicked evening of suspected witches, whispering muses, and women who cannot be tamed. Authors Emilia Hart, Laura Purcell and Rosie Andrews will be discussing women’s relationships, ambition, and the pursuit of power in the Untame Women event. They will be interviewed by Jen Cownie and Fiona Lensvelt of Litwitchure – a literary tarot cabaret and consultancy. The event will take place on the events space on the third floor.
Tickets are £8 for General Admission, £5 for Waterstones Loyalty Cardholders, and Book and Ticket options are available.
On Thursday, 16 February at 11am, Cambridge-based author and illustrator Matty Long will lead a storytime and interactive draw-along based on his book Who Ate all the Bugs? Get ready to feast on a diet of facts about the animals, plants and ecosystems found in the natural world. Recommended ages 5+.
Tickets are £2 per child for General Admission and £8 for Book and Ticket (RRP £7.99). Parents do not require a ticket.
On Sunday, 19 February Marjoke Henrichs will be in the bookshop for a very special storytime. Families can select of of two sessions – at 11am or 2pm. Each session is 45 minutes in duration and includes a reading of the book Ready! Said Rabbit as well as a craft activity. Recommended ages 3+.Tickets are £2 per child for General Admission and £8 for Book and Ticket (RRP £7.99). Parents to not require a ticket.
On Tuesday, 21 February from 6pm is the Creative Writing Workshop. This month, the workshop will be run by Notes publication – a student-run zine based in Cambridge who regularly publish new issues of creative writing, essays, art and photography. Attendees are invited to bring any works in progress.

Join Waterstones Cambridge on Thursday, 23 February for an unforgettable evening with novelists Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ and Rosanna Amaka for a panel entitled Narrating Nigeria. In A Spell of Good Things, Adébáyọ̀ unveils a dazzling story of modern Nigeria and two families caught in the riptides of wealth, power, romantic obsession and political corruption. In Rose and the Burma Sky, a rarely imagined story of a black soldier’s experience fighting in WW2 provides the unexplored backdrop to a universal story of unrequited love, sacrifice and revenge. They will be in conversation with Dr Oluwabunmi Bernard, visiting fellow at the Centre of African Studies at the University of Cambridge. Book signing to follow.
