Waterstones Book Evening

£8.00On Thursday 26 September at 6pm, world-renowned specialist on Islamic history Prof Nile Green will be at Waterstones Cambridge to discuss his new book, Empire’s Son, Empire’s Orphan – a fascinating exploration of the lives of Ikbal and Idries Shah who convinced spies, poets, orientalists, diplomats, occultists, hippies and even a Prime Minister that they held the keys to understanding the Muslim world.
Prof Nile Green is the Professor & Ibn Khaldun Endowed Chair in World History at UCLA. He is a historian of the multiple globalizations of Islam and Muslims. After beginning his career as a historian of India and Pakistan, he has traced Muslim networks that connect Afghanistan, Iran, the Indian Ocean, Africa, Japan, Europe and America.
He will be in conversation with Dr Arthur Asseraf – Associate Professor in the History of France and the Francophone World at Pembroke College, Cambridge.
The event will take place at Waterstones Cambridge, 22 Sidney Street, Cambridge, CB2 3HG.
