The Romantic – The Sampson Orchestra
Saturday January 31, 2026
£10.00 – £18.00The Sampson Orchestra of Cambridge, conducted by Darrell Davison, performs works by three famous composers of the 19th-century Austro-German symphonic tradition. The concert begins with Schumann’s Manfred Overture (1848), and this is followed by Bruch’s renowned Violin Concerto No.1 (1868), featuring rising star soloist Basil Alter. The second half of the concert comprises Bruckner’s wonderful “Romantic” Symphony No.4 (1874). The local charity which will benefit from this concert is It Takes A City, which is a Cambridge Homelessness Partnership.
A particularly important sphere of the Cambridge Orchestra’s activities has been to work with local charities, amongst them the Arthur Rank Hospice, the Anglia Ruskin University Music Therapy Appeal, Cambridge Mencap, CamSight, and The Sick Children’s Trust. The Sampson Orchestra continues to do so as an important part of its charitable status.
