Friendship Cafe
Monday February 5–Monday March 25
Friendship Café at St John’s Hills Road re-starts to ‘lighten the dark days’.
The weekly Friendship Café at St John’s Centre on Hills Road is about to re-start on Mondays during February and March 2024, from 2.30 pm until 4.00 pm.
The Café originally began as part of the government’s ‘warm hub’ project but came to an end last year. However, with two more months of winter ahead this year, it was decided to open the café once again, as the Revd James Shakespeare, Vicar of St John’s Church, explains:
“I think a lot of us get to this time of year and wonder if winter and its gloomy days will ever end. So we thought it would be a great time to invite people to a warm and welcoming space, with refreshments and some friendly company if they’d like it. There will be jigsaws and games like Scrabble for those who enjoy that, or you could bring your knitting or a book to read if you prefer. Let’s lighten the dark days together.”
The Club is run by volunteers and is open to anyone who would like to attend. It is free of charge and there is no need to book.
A Community Lunch also takes place at the St John’s Centre on the last Wednesday of the month, from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm. A two course meal is £5 per person and no booking is needed.
The St John’s Centre is wheelchair accessible and there is a small car park behind the church. If you need more information please email office@stjohntheevangelistscambridge.org or call 01223 241316.
