Clare College Music Society – Lent Term Concert

Clare College Music Society’s Lent Term Concert centres around Clare first-year Isaac Chan’s performance of Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.4, as the winner of the CCMS Concerto Competition 2023. This work follows Prokofiev’s first symphony of 1917, in which Mozart’s classical style is clearly an influence on Prokofiev.

After the interlude CCMS turns to England, with Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Wasps’ Overture opening the half. The orchestra are then joined by the CCMS Chorus for Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, with Clare vocalists Emma Caroe, Julian Manresa and Emma Paterson each presenting a solo movement. The concert concludes with Hubert Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens, a standard of the British choral repertory.

Clare College Music Society is one of the biggest and most highly regarded music societies in Cambridge. For this concert, the renowned CCMS Orchestra combines with the CCMS Chorus, under the direction of multiple Clare student conducto.
