Five members of renowned vocal ensemble I Fagiolini present an evening of songs and piano pieces, created especially for Stapleford Granary.
Anna Markland’s programme extends the intimacy of the domestic setting, complementing Brahms’ vocal quartets with songs and piano pieces by the two composers closest to Brahms; Clara and Robert Schumann. The personality of Clara herself dominates the song outputs of both of the men, symbolic to them of all that was good in German life and art, and reflecting the complex personal and artistic relationship between these three pillars of German Romantic music.
