Cambridge 105 Radio takes two at Community Radio Awards 2023

Cambridge 105 Radio presenter Glenn Jones has won silver in the Entertainment Show of the Year category at the Community Radio Awards 2023.

There was also a Bronze for Cambridge 105 Radio’s coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The awards were revealed at an event in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on Saturday November 4.

Glenn has been a regular presenter on Cambridge 105 Radio for 10 years. Most recently the Friday presenter of Home, they have recently moved to a new Sunday morning show.

Glenn’s quirky sense of humour combines with an appreciation of what’s happening in the community.

The Bronze Award came in a Special Category: HM Queen Elizabeth II – Her life, Her Reign, and her passing.

Cambridge 105 Radio won for its coverage of the announcement of her late majesty’s death, which included the announcement itself and special programming in the days that followed.

Commenting on his Sliver award for Entertainment Show of the Glenn Jones said: ‘Well, that was a surprise! We may have failed to win the world puddle jumping championships last year, but I suppose this is a good consolation prize”.

Julian Clover, Editorial Lead, Cambridge 105 Radio said: “Somewhere amid Glenn’s sense of the absurd is a sense of community that can be heard in every conversation. Our role as a radio station is to reflect what’s happening in Cambridge and Glenn is one of the best”.

“The death of a monarch is something that few on our team had experienced in their lifetimes, but everyone at Cambridge 105 Radio rose to the challenge to share the national moment with the city in which we live.”

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
