A drama to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, a tribute to street sweeper and tour guide Allan Brigham; and two popular presenters have received nominations in the Community Radio Awards 2022.
The Easts, which is on the shortlist for Arts & Creative Radio of the Year, is an eight-part family drama set in the East of England that spans the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. The Easts was produced by Trevor Dann, directed by Leigh Chambers and supported by the Audio Content Fund. It was broadcast in the run-up to Her Late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Leigh Chambers’ documentary, The Allan Brigham Story, is nominated as Community Show of the Year. The programme includes contributions from his brothers Robert and Nigel, his niece and nephew, those who worked with him at the Cambridge Folk Museum and the Mill Road History Project, friends from the Cambridge Labour Party and others whose lives he touched.
Leigh is also nominated as Best Female Presenter. In addition to presenting a mid-morning show twice a week, Leigh also interviews local authors in our feature series Bookmark.
Matt Webb has been nominated as Best Male Presenter. Matt is the host of Saturday Breakfast, he has also been an on-stage host for Cambridge 105 Radio at The Big Weekend, Strawberry Fair, and the Northstowe Running Festival. Matt’s interview skills are in evidence during Cambridge 105 Radio’s coverage of general and local elections, where he regularly reports from the city count.
Julian Clover, Editorial Lead, Cambridge 105 Radio said: “It is a great tribute to the efforts of all our volunteers that our programmes and presenters have been recognised in this way. Both Leigh and Matt are steeped in the community, and this comes through in Leigh’s skilful telling of Allan’s story and her mid-morning interviews.
“Matt’s skill as a presenter was ably demonstrated when at very short notice, he was required to announce the death of The Queen. It’s just one small part of what he does at Cambridge 105 Radio from selecting the new music playlists through to leading some of our outside broadcasts.”
The awards take place on November 19th at King’s House, Bedford.
