Cambridge 105 Radio announces Christmas Schedule

An extended interview with the Mayor of Cambridge, music from local schoolchildren and a tribute to a beloved presenter are part of the Christmas schedule at award-winning community station Cambridge 105 Radio.

Julian Clover, Editorial Lead, Cambridge 105 Radio said: “We’ve brought together all the ingredients of a classic Christmas, music, entertainment and plenty of time with the 105 family. It’s worth remembering that Cambridge 105 Radio is run entirely by volunteers who run the station on a day-to-day basis.”

Christmas Eve

12:00 – 13:00 Cambridge Film Show

The team review their favourite films of 2022.  

13:00 – 14:00 Rotary Club Christmas Concert – Carols for Ukraine

Neil Whiteside introduces the annual Rotary concert from Great Saint Mary’s Church. Featuring performances from Cambourne Village College, Comberton Village College, Landmark International School, St. Faith’s School, St. Mary’s Junior School, Barton CoE Primary School, Harston and Newton Primary School, St. John’s College School and University Primary School. 22:00 – 23:00 John Rutter at Christmas

John Rutter CBE discusses his career as a composer and conductor, in conversation with Tony Barnfield, and selects some of his favourite Christmas music from across the years.  

23:00 – 23:30 When Christmas was Cancelled

Dr Sean Lang goes back to 1647 when Cambridgeshire Presbyterian Oliver Cromwell ordered Christmas to be abolished. Programme Website

23:30 – 01:30 Midnight Mass

Julian Clover introduces live coverage from the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, Hills Road, Cambridge. The Vigil of Music and Readings leads into Midnight Mass.  

Christmas Day

08:00 – 10:00 John Gannon’s 60s Scene

John Gannon is live on Christmas morning with a great selection of Classic 60’s sounds plus a liberal sprinkling of festive cheer to get your Christmas off to a real swinging start.

10:00 – 11:00 Lucy Meets the Mayor

Lucy Milazzo is joined by Mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Mark Ashton for an hour of music and conversation.

11:00 – 12:00 Barnaby Smith

The artistic director of internationally renowned Voces 8, Barnaby Smith presents an hour of his favourite Christmas music. 

12:00 – 14:00 The Big Band Show at Christmas

John Hammond introduces a special edition of the Big Band Show.  Programme Website

14:00 – 14:30 The Collaboration Choir

Join Carrie Rawlings and The Collaboration Choir for a Christmas concert, recorded exclusively for Cambridge 105 Radio, at The Clay Farm Centre in Trumpington.  

14:30 – 15:00 When Christmas Was Cancelled

15:05 – 16:00 Classical Christmas with Tony Barnfield

Tony Barnfield takes us on a festive musical journey from regal palaces to more humble beginnings, celebrating Christmas, New Year and all things seasonal, from Bach to Britten and Vivaldi to Vaughan Williams.  

Boxing Day

12:00 – 13:00 Neil Meets

Neil Whiteside presents highlights of some of the interviews from his lunchtime show featuring Alice Merton, Betty Boo, Clark Datchler (Johnny Hates Jazz), Denise Waterman (Tight Fit), Mari Wilson, Emeli Sandé, Roachford and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

13:00 – 14:00 Club Global: A Tribute to Nick Skelton

An edition of Club Global broadcast in tribute to much loved presenter DJ Skunk who died last month.  

14:00 – 16:00 The Easts

Another chance to hear our Community Radio Award-winning drama, first broadcast to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The family drama is set in the East of England and spans the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. 

17:00 – 19:00 Chris Brown’s Boxing Day Motown Party

Chris Brown presents two-hours of Motown Classics.
