Cambridge 105 is launching a music awards night that will celebrate and recognise the talent of the local music scene in Cambridge and surrounding towns and villages across all music genres and ages.
The NMG Awards evening will take place on October 24, 2013 at The Portland Arms, Cambridge.
The event is part of the community radio station’s flagship live music show, the New Music Generator.
The NMG Awards are open to any artist who has been featured on Cambridge 105’s featured on the New Music Generator show in the 12 months to July 31st, 2013, provided they are based within 50 miles of Cambridge city centre.
The judging panel will be chaired by Tim Willett, the music promoter, who presents the New Music Generator programme each Wednesday evening on Cambridge 105.
Joining Tim on the judging panel are:
Nicola Holland of Skinny Kitten Events, who has orchestrated the Cambridge Band Competition for the past few years, and has been instrumental in the running of volunteer events including Strawberry Fair and Oxjam in Cambridge.
Gary Brown, organizer of the popular Junction Fiver Night, vocalist in Ska band Big 10 and supporter of up and coming young bands in the area.
Joe Weaver, the manager and music promoter, best known for working with Lewis Mokler and a well-known figure on the Suffolk Music Scene.
Helen Meissner, a promoter and supporter of folk music across the Eastern region, and creator of the Folkstock festival.
Seymour Quigley, promoter and guitarist/vocalist in Bury band Horse Party.
The judges will put together a long list of nominations in 12 categories and publish these at the beginning of September.
Most of the categories will be judged; a couple will be voted for by the public.
By the beginning of October a final list of nominations in each category will be published and nominees will be invited free to the awards evening on October 24th.
Aside from this other artists may be asked to perform on the night and tickets will be available for the general public.
The evening will be recorded for later broadcast on Cambridge 105.
The NMG Awards are being sponsored by Half-Ton Studios, Greg’s Greats Records, Skinny Kitten Events, Toon Teen Industries, Washing Machine Events and Folkstock Arts Foundation.
