Food insecurity is affecting more than a quarter of UK households with children — and researchers say it’s having a direct impact on early childhood development and obesity. A new University of Cambridge study, known as SPROUT, is looking at how parents feed their children in those crucial first 1,000 days of life, and the challenges families face when access to food isn’t secure. Dr Cara Ruggiero has been leading the research, exploring how responsive feeding — understanding when a child is hungry or full — can support healthier outcomes. She’s involved in a talk on Thursday evening as part of the Cambridge Festival and spoke to Julian Clover.
