Backstage with Cambridge Operatic Society’s Guys & Dolls

Finding true love in a noir New York of hustlers, gangsters and showgirls might sound like a long shot — but add Frank Loesser’s music, a bit of swagger and a bright spotlight, and you’ve got Guys and Dolls, one of Broadway’s best-loved musicals.Cambridge Operatic Society brings the show to the Arts Theatre next week, opening on 14 January, with a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

It follows lovable rogue Nathan Detroit as he hunts for a venue for his illicit craps game, while smooth-talking Sky Masterson makes a bet that he can win the heart of Sarah Brown, a determined sergeant at the Save-a-Soul Mission.

Director Helen Petrovna and lead actor Saskia Edwards-Korolczuk, who plays Sarah Brown, spoke to Simon Bertin ahead of a production packed with unforgettable, timeless numbers.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
