Bookmark – Ellee Seymour

The studio guest on this week’s Bookmark is Ellee Seymour, author of The Sunday Times bestseller, The Shop Girls, which examines the lives of the women who worked at Heyworths, an upmarket department store in Cambridge that thrived during the 1950s. She reveals how, during her research, she uncovered a heartbreaking secret in the life of shop owner Herbert Heyworth.

We also have interviews with author and columnist, John Mullan, on his book Anonymity about why some writers prefer to be known as ‘anon’ and we chat to Julia Blackburn about her latest biography, Threads; The Delicate Life of John Craske, the extraordinary story of the Norfolk fisherman and artist who lived for months at a time in a state of stupor. Leigh Chambers presents.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
