Mainly known for his wide-ranging non-fiction work, Francis’ debut novel, Golden Hill, has been receiving rave reviews. Set in eighteenth century New York, The Sunday Times called it ‘dazzling’ and The Guardian described it as ‘first class period entertainment’.
Francis talks about walking the streets of present day New York with a map almost two hundred years old, and just why it’s taken him so long to get round to writing fiction.
