105 Breakfast: Wine Review 07/06/2013

Mark Anstead of the Cambridgeshire Wine School talks summer wines and tries a rather nice and good value Chablis.

Pascal Bouchard Chablis, £14.99 in Waitrose but reduced to £10.99 until June 11.

A well respected family producer and a Chablis with nicely ripe fruit flavour.

Locally available organic wine? Any wine merchant will be able to point you to the organic wine they stock, but Cambridge Wine Merchants sell a couple of South African wines called Running Duck that are both organic and fair-trade. It means the producer is buying in the grapes rather than growing them itself, but it sources only from organic vineyards and gives the farmers a fair price. The white is a Sauvignon/Chenin blend and the red is a Shiraz and they both cost £7.99.

Noel Young in Trumpington has  just got in a load of interesting trophy award-winning wines from the annual International Wine Competition (IWC) and Decanter Awards andwill be putting most of them on free tasting in the shop on Saturday June 15 and 22. Noel judges at the IWC himself so he knows these wines will have had to have been rigorously blind tasted by a whole panel of wine experts before being given a trophy. Noel also has some cracking wines in his June mixed case which he is offering at an 11% case discount giving an average price of just £10 a bottle.

Securing the future of Community Radio

Cambridge Radio is the Community broadcaster for Cambridge and South Cambs.

Our brief is to give a voice to those sometimes excluded from traditional media. And the presenters you hear on air are all volunteers themselves who give up their time for free. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who listens to our shows, our podcasts, the businesses we feature, helps to pay for it, our future would be much more secure.

You can support Cambridge Radio by giving monthly or by making a one-off contribution.
