Cambridge City Council Fireworks on Midsummer Common

Autumn has arrived along with the return of one the city’s most spectacular events of the year Bonfire Night, sponsored this year by Illumina.

Organised by Cambridge City Council, the annual event is one of the largest free displays in the region and is regarded as the safest and best way to enjoy Bonfire Night!

The Firework display will start at 7pm on Saturday 5th November on Midsummer Common and the bonfire will be lit once the display finishes.

Designing this year’s display once again is multi award-winning company, Pains Fireworks, flagbearers for professional firework displays for nearly 200 years.

Transport

There will be a lot of people heading to this event so we strongly advise that if you live in the city or the surrounding areas on walking, cycling or using public transport to get to the event. It will probably be the quickest and easiest way to enjoy the event!

Please do not park your car illegally on the evening. There will be extra Traffic Wardens on patrol for the evening and they may require police to assist where vehicles could be blocking exit routes for pedestrians.

Park and Ride

The final Park and Ride buses leave at the following times on Saturday 5 November:

Madingley P&R – St Andrews St S1 20.30
Milton P&R – Drummer St D3 20.00
Trumpington P&R – Downing St 20.30
Newmarket P&R – Drummer St D1 20.30
Babraham P&R – Drummer St Bay 4 20.20

 

Road Closures

There will be several roads closed around Midsummer Common during the event as well as a one-way system in place for some roads around the common. Road closures will be in place between 18:30-21:45 and the one-way system in place between 18:30-20:45. Take a look at the full list of road closures and roads converting to the one-way system HERE

Accessible Attendees

The Accessible Parking for the Bonfire Night will be at Jesus College. Parking is limited but Stewards will be on-site to assist. All patrons using the accessible car park MUST arrive before Victoria Avenue closes at 6:30pm. At the end of the evening, you will exit onto Jesus Lane, leaving via Bridge Street. The ANPR camera there is suspended until 9 pm.

Info on the 2 Accessible Viewing Areas

The first accessible viewing area is in the Marquee by the path, this is a covered area. The second viewing area is right at the front of the display area, follow the path to access it, please note this viewing area is uncovered.

Entry is FREE though we do respectfully ask for a donation if possible to help with the costs of the event and keep it free for all. It’s simple to make a donation ahead of the event by clicking the donation button below:

Alternatively, you can bring any spare change you have and donate at the event – look out for official bucket collectors.
