In the second part of our documentary Leigh Chambers hears the experiences of Cambridge men on the battlefields of France and Belgium, and life for the women left behind at home. Roger Lilley, first world war postcard collector, discusses the morale boosting effects of communication between families in the UK and men fighting at the front, and what these postcards can tell us today. We’ll also look at what happened to the men once they returned to Cambridge and what, if anything, they told their families about life as a soldier.
