SUMMARY:New Cambridge Singers - Music from Nature
DESCRIPTION:New Cambridge Singers’ summer concert draws together music inspired by nature\, culminating with Ralph Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending arranged for choir and violin by Paul Drayton\, which brings new colours (and words) to this favourite. Plainscapes is perhaps the Latvian equivalent with its dream-like texture of wordless choir\, cello and violin evoking the native birds of Peteris Vasks’ homeland. \nMore birds round out the programme\, with Stanford’s miraculous and poised The Bluebird in its original context of the Op.119 folksongs to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death. \nNew Cambridge Singers\, conducted by James Potter/ Soloists: Freya Goldmark (violin)\, Chris Terepin (cello) \n7..30pm (until 9.30pm) at Downing Place United Reformed Church\, Downing Street\, Cambridge CB2 3EL \nTickets: £18\, £9 (students)\, under 18s free \nCompanion tickets for anyone with long-term disability offered free of charge. \nwww.ticketsource.co.uk/new-cambridge-singers \nThere will be a second concert on Saturday\, 29th June at All Saints Church\, High Street Cottenham.  Tickets: £14\, £6 (students)\, under 18s free. www.ticketsource.co.uk/friendsofallsaintscottenham\,  \nBy phone 01954 250000 or from Ward’s greengrocer

SUMMARY:Hansard
DESCRIPTION:It’s the summer of 1988. Tory politician Robin Hesketh returns to his idyllic home in the Cotswolds. It’s his birthday and\, having successfully passed Section 28; effectively banning the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in schools\, he is in a celebratory mood. However\, his welcome is not as he’d hoped. \nDiana has a stinking hangover\, a fox is destroying the garden\, and secrets are being dug up all over the place. As the day draws on\, what starts with the familiar rhythms of marital sparring quickly turns to blood-sport. \nHistoryonics Theatre Company presents Hansard\, a witty and savage portrait of the governing class and the society at the time. Funny\, tender\, and ultimately brutal. \nThis production is suitable for ages 12 and over. \nNightly performances at 7.00 taking place in Corpus Playroom. \nTickets – £7.50 to £9.50. \nFor info go to https://www.adctheatre.com/whats-on/play/hansard/

SUMMARY:Cambridge Shakespeare Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Merry Wives of Windsor\n29 July – 24 August 2024\nEvery evening (except Sunday) at 7.30pm\nSt John’s College Gardens\n(entrance via Queen’s Road only) \nShakespeare’s brilliantly witty farce tells of a would-be seducer\, a jealous husband and two resourceful housewives in a hilarious battle of wits and wiles. Sir John Falstaff gets more than he bargained for when he simultaneously pursues two wealthy married women. Upon receiving identical copies of Falstaff’s love letter\, the spirited Mistresses Ford and Page cook up a scheme of their own to teach the fat knight a lesson\, with uproariously funny results. Don’t miss this sparkling production! \nRichard II\n29 July – 24 August 2024\nEvery evening (except Sunday) at 7.30pm\nTrinity College Gardens\n(entrance via Queen’s Road only) \nRichard II is a regal and stately monarch. He believes he is ordained by God\, yet he is a weak and ineffective king – wasteful in his spending habits\, unwise in his choice of counsellors\, and detached from his country and its people. When he seizes the land of his cousin Henry Bolingbroke\, both the commoners and the barons decide that their king has gone too far… This production reflects the play’s intense psychological struggle as well as a taut political drama. \nA Midsummer Night’s Dream\n29 July – 24 August 2024\nEvery evening (except Sunday) at 7.30pm\nKing’s College Gardens\n(entrance via Queen’s Road only) \nThe beautiful gardens of King’s College Fellows’ Garden form the perfect setting for Shakespeare’s delightful fairy-tale world of love\, jealousy and youthful exuberance. This captivating production brings to life all the magic and humour of Shakespeare’s best-loved play. Why not invite your children to come along dressed as fairies to add to what promises to be a spectacular evening!
