SUMMARY:Cambridge Nature Festival
DESCRIPTION:A nature festival from 25 May to 30 June with many interesting events. \nOne example of interesting events is The Wildlife Trust (BCN)’s annual river Cam bat punts with Scudamore’s provide one of the most exciting evening experiences of summer on the river in Cambridge. Enjoy a unique experience setting off just before dusk. Hand held bat detectors pick up on bat echolocation as the punt drifts down the river; a Wildlife Trust guide will interpret the type of bat from the clicks and squeaks of\, for example\, pipistrelle and Daubenton’s bats\, as well as identifying all the other sounds of the riverbank – from herons and tawny owls to roosting wading birds and the occasional passing fox. \nAlso films\, talks and events at Wimbpole Estate. \nFor details go to https://cambridgenaturenetwork.org/cambridge-nature-festival/

SUMMARY:The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
DESCRIPTION:A cartoonish\, eclectic group of six overachieving mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. \nWhile candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life\, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words. Each hope to never hear the soul-crushing\, pout-inducing\, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake\, and the overstated feeling of failure that resonates with overachievers everywhere. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. \nComplete with an engaging\, tuneful score by William Finn and a sweet\, funny book by Rachel Sheinkin\, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee causes audiences to fall in love\, both with the show itself and its “perspicacious”\, “jocular” and “effervescent” spellers. \nThis production is suitable for ages 12 and over. \nNightly performances at 7.45 pm. \nTickets – £10.00 to £17.00. \nFor info go to https://www.adctheatre.com/whats-on/musical/the-25th-annual-putnam-county-spelling-bee/

SUMMARY:New Cambridge Singers - Music from Nature
DESCRIPTION:New Cambridge Singers’ summer concert draws together music inspired by nature\, culminating with Ralph Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending arranged for choir and violin by Paul Drayton\, which brings new colours (and words) to this favourite. Plainscapes is perhaps the Latvian equivalent with its dream-like texture of wordless choir\, cello and violin evoking the native birds of Peteris Vasks’ homeland. \nMore birds round out the programme\, with Stanford’s miraculous and poised The Bluebird in its original context of the Op.119 folksongs to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death. \nNew Cambridge Singers\, conducted by James Potter/ Soloists: Freya Goldmark (violin)\, Chris Terepin (cello) \n7..30pm (until 9.30pm) at Downing Place United Reformed Church\, Downing Street\, Cambridge CB2 3EL \nTickets: £18\, £9 (students)\, under 18s free \nCompanion tickets for anyone with long-term disability offered free of charge. \nwww.ticketsource.co.uk/new-cambridge-singers \nThere will be a second concert on Saturday\, 29th June at All Saints Church\, High Street Cottenham.  Tickets: £14\, £6 (students)\, under 18s free. www.ticketsource.co.uk/friendsofallsaintscottenham\,  \nBy phone 01954 250000 or from Ward’s greengrocer
