The story of the Calendar Girls launched a global phenomenon: a million copycat calendars\, a record-breaking movie\, stage play and now a musical written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth. \nThe Over Players was formed in 1984\, celebrating their 40th anniversary last year. They generally produce two large productions each year – a Spring show in May/June\, and a pantomime in December. As one of the longest-established fairs in the UK\, it is also a cherished part of the city’s history. \nThe Fair\, which is run by the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller community on Midsummer Common\, is free to enter. In 1901\, the Cambridge News described the opening of the event as “the delight of children and the pleasure of not a few adults.” \nThroughout history\, there has been a variety of entertainment at the fair including fire-eating\, sword-swallowing\, moving pictures and wrestling. Today\, the entertainment is mainly fairground rides and stalls that all ages can enjoy. There is a fee for individual rides and stalls.
