SUMMARY:East Anglia Chamber Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The East Anglia Chamber Orchestra returns to the West Road Concert Hall with an attractive and ambitious programme directed by the gifted and inspiring Toby Purser. The concert will open with Rossini’s romantic and exciting William Tell Overture\, describing life in the Swiss Alps. They are then joined by TWO internationally acclaimed soloists : Michael Foyle and Thomas Carroll performing the monumental and bittersweet Double Concerto for violin and ‘cello by Brahms. Written after his last symphony\, the concerto is an elderly composer’s gift of reconciliation to a friend being performed by friends. \nIn a more light-hearted vain\, the concert resumes with the colourful and lively Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold\, written for the BBC Light Music Festival in 1957. It was the warmth and richness of Italy that inspired the young Mendelssohn to compose his A major Fourth Symphony\, which he described as the “jolliest piece I have ever done”. \nPassion\, romance\, friendship\, dancing\, and a tour of European culture with talented companions – what a divine combination! \nADC Ticketing 01223 300085\n£25 adults / £22 concessions (over 60s) / £10 students / £5 under 18s \nFor info go to https://www.westroad.org/whats-on/michael-foyle-tom-carroll-join-eacho-for-brahms-double-concerto

SUMMARY:Curious about Hans Christian Andersen?
DESCRIPTION:Performances at 10:30am & 1:30pm (Concert Hall) \nThe Goldfield Ensemble – Nicola Goldscheider & Emma Crossley\, violins | Bridget Carey\, viola | Toby Turton\, cello | Kate Romano\, clarinet & narrator \nA dazzling alchemy of chamber music\, stories and pictures\, set in a life-size Victorian paper theatre. Three of Hans Christian Andersen’s best-loved tales are woven into the story of Andersen’s own extraordinary life; his childhood home in deepest poverty\, his unshakeable belief that he was destined for greatness\, his passion for paper-snipping and his love of theatre. The backstage workings of the show—the scene changes\, the paper props and figures—are visibly seen by the audience\, revealing a curious toy-like world. Bespoke illustrations by Jonny Boatfield conjure up stories of emperors\, nightingales and swans\, through fantastical backdrops and intricate silhouettes. The score includes music by Felix Mendelssohn\, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, Igor Stravinsky\, Sergei Prokofiev\, Henry Purcell and Maurice Ravel\, performed live throughout the show. \nCurious about Hans Christian Andersen? has been created for music and story-lovers of all ages. We suggest a lower age limit of 5 years\, due to the duration of the show (around 50 minutes) and the focus on storytelling and live music\, which ask for a slightly longer attention span than children under the age of 5 are sometimes comfortable with. \nTickets £11 / £9 (under 25). \nSuitable for age 5+ Children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults and children all require tickets. \nFor info go to https://www.staplefordgranary.org.uk/whats-on/events/tiny-concerts-curious-about-hans-christian-andersen

Together\, the band created a sound that was intricate and engaging\, fusing elements of rock\, jazz\, classical\, and funk\, but never lost cohesion. They revealed a depth of musical understanding that comes not only from skill but from years of collaboration and individual artistry. \n“EBB captivated audiences at the Fusion and Prog for Peart festivals. The explosive initial impact is huge\, the band instantly generating a universe of musical and physical expression to convey their multifaceted takes on the human condition. The focal point\, wild-haired singer-guitarist Erin Bennett\, exudes an edgy\, dynamic charisma\, her voice laser-like in its directness and clarity. Flanking her is the interpretive\, flowing movement of backing singer Kitty Biscuits together with synth player Suna Dasi\, who heighten their dramatic genre-busting songs that focus on classic and space rock\, interspersed with dashes of psychedelia\, folk and jazz. \n8:00 PM \nPrice – £ 24.00. Age – Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. \nFor info go to https://www.junction.co.uk/events/ebb-john-hackett-band/

SUMMARY:John Kirkpatrick: Tunes from the Trenches
DESCRIPTION:John Kirkpatrick\, accordion\, concertina\, melodeon & vocals \nVeteran squeezebox maestro John Kirkpatrick opens up a kit bag of songs from the two World Wars. There’s a fair smattering of the popular hits of the day\, designed to raise a smile and provide a moment’s respite. Threaded through these selections\, John gives an airing to some of the songs sung on the Front Line by the service personnel themselves. \nThrough music and words\, John demonstrates the directness\, wit\, humour\, and\, occasionally\, rather fruity language which enabled the human spirit to endure the hardships and horrors on every side. This is a heart-warming show\, with poignant moments in amongst the jolly choruses\, celebrating the comradeship and determination that allowed previous generations to Keep Smiling Through. \nConcert 3:00pm ending 4:15pm (no interval) \nTickets £24 / £12 (under 25) \nFor info go to https://www.staplefordgranary.org.uk/whats-on/events/john-kirkpatrick-tunes-from-the-trenches
