DESCRIPTION:Have a go at scything and watch experts in action. \nScything is a traditional rural skill that was used to cut hay. The skill is kept alive by enthusiasts and scything is still used to cut hay in small or difficult locations where using a tractor isn’t possible. \nBack for a third year and expanded to include the revived Eastern Counties Scything Championships\, the Wandlebury Scything Festival is becoming a premier scythe event. \nFrom 10am-1pm there will be scything demonstrations and have-a-go sessions\, so you can try your hand at scything. \nThere will be Green Woodworking demonstrations from the Cambridge Bodgers\, making items from the wood that is a by-product from the Woodland Restoration Project. \nStay around for the afternoon to watch the scything championships and see how the experts do it. This year’s parade theme will be Sport. \nAll profits go towards Burwell Carnival costs meaning we can give more funds out to Burwell Community groups. Last year we gave out over £5\,000 to more than 20 local groups. \nThe parade starts at 12:15pm at the top of The Causeway\, turning left into Hythe Lane and straight onto The Recreation Ground up to our stage area. \nOn the recreation ground we will have our Carnival bar\, fantastic entertainment from bands and dance groups\, fairground rides\, inflatables\, craft stalls and food vendors along with so much more to enjoy on-the-day. We have live music and performers throughout the afternoon and evening until 11pm. \nThe Carnival bar will be selling real ale from Burwell Brewery & cider from Spinney Abbey\, lager and Pimms by the jug/glasses\, along with wine\, Prosecco\, spirits & soft drinks. The Burwell Belles – WI will provide hot drinks & refreshments and there is also a wide choice of food vendors on the field. \nPlus\, a fantastic range of craft and community stalls.
