SUMMARY:The Marian Consort
DESCRIPTION:The Marian Consort presents a programme of extraordinary beauty and hidden meaning from Renaissance Portugal. This rich polyphonic music is as expressive as it is politically charged: written under the rule of the Spanish Habsburgs from 1580 to 1640\, music by Duarte Lobo (c1565-1646) and Manuel Cardoso (1566-1650) set texts of mourning and lamentation\, longing for an end to foreign rule and yearning for the restoration of a Portuguese monarchy. Also included are pieces by Vicente Lusitano\, whose identity remains largely a mystery (his surname simply means ‘Portuguese’) and whose status as likely the first published composer of African heritage has ignited new interest in his astonishing music. \nLed by founder and director Rory McCleery\, The Marian Consort is an award-winning British vocal ensemble that presents bold and thrilling performances of music from across the centuries. Lades and awards including the Diapason D’Or\, Presto Classical Album of the Year and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. \nTickets –  £12.00 to £24.00. \nFor info go to https://www.staplefordgranary.org.uk/

DESCRIPTION:An Evening of Francis Rossi’s Songs from the Status Quo Songbook and more. \nFrancis will perform many of his signature hits that made the Quo name\, plus some personal favourites and deeper cuts\, and he’ll be telling more stories about his incredible life in music. Francis will mostly be playing his Acoustasonic guitar which\, as he says\, “is basically a Telecaster but is more compatible with a show of this nature – it still has the ring and sound of a Tele”. \nThese new 2025 shows promise lots more music\, but plenty of talk too. The shows will lift the curtain on what life is really like in one of Britain’s biggest and best bands\, and also provide some context for all the crazy stuff that has happened along the way. \nTickets – £43.00 to £103.00. \nFor info go to The Corn Exchange Box Office

SUMMARY:Chimera - Exhibition at The Edge
DESCRIPTION:Taking place at The Edge Cafe\,  351 Mill Road\, Cambridge CB1 3DF \nOpen Mon – Sat. 09.00 – 16.00 \nIan Rawlinson’s Chimera series is inspired by a black-and-white film clip of the last Thylacine in captivity. This film prompted Rawlinson to create images which deal with ideas of a vanished past: transformation and memory. \nThe new prints combine part of the now-extinct Thylacine with places in Cambridge from Rawlinson’s past\, primarily Arbury and King’s Hedges. These places have a nostalgic feeling and are reminders of a childhood spent in and around the newly created housing\, the nearby farmland and derelict army base. The idea that the Thylacine is gone reflects his feelings about childhood\, coupled with an intense longing to see the past once again\, this time from the vantage point of the present. \nFurther information www.ianrawlinson.com
